2006 Edition. Too stinkin' stubborn to quit. Going Nowhere is all about those imaginary treks we take on the road to fitness. Many of us hop on contraptions such as rowing machines, stationary bicycles, treadmills, stepping machines or elliptical machines that tell us we've travelled considerable distances even though technically we haven't budged an inch. This is a place to record those treks and encourage each other on what can sometimes be a frustrating experience.
Barbara has signed on for year number three of Going Nowhere. Walking goal for 2005 - MET! Bike riding goal for 2005 - doubled!!!
For 2006 she's upping the ante. Walking goal: 750 (hopefully to be beat this year - barring accidents and such again). Bike riding goal: 1500 miles (perhaps a few more). Miles as of May 3rd - Walking miles helped mightily by a week in D.C. with 12 8th graders on a Spring Break History tour. I walked over 106,000 steps on the pedometer - just under 50 miles!
Walking: 192.31 2 ducks! Woot!
Exercise bike: 784.38
halfway to goal on biking - woot!
Bethy This is year #3. This year I hope to actually make the 500 miles anyway possible. Every year I've been getting closer and closer. This will BE The year! Yup, too stubborn to quit! It's a new year and I have a new pair of shoes. Walk on and BRING ON THE DUCKIES!
Miles as of Feb. 1: 6.5
Carrie tried to Go Nowhere before (three times, in
fact), but never quite went far enough. This year she's got motivation, a gym membership, and comfortable shoes. Just to make it challenging, she didn't get started until April... and, since nothing motivates like upping the anty on a bet you never
quite win with yourself, Carrie is aiming for 500 miles on the bike as well as another 250 miles of walking/running.
Totals miles so far (as of June 22):
Walking: 120 - Walking Ducks:
Biking: 32
Total: 157 miles
***Dave has given into his OCD with stuff like this by wearing a pedometer everywhere. He ended up with over 500 miles in 2004 and over 1,500 in 2005.
Miles as of Dec. 11: 1,405.
Emily thinks joining the five hundred posse will give her the motivation to get her butt in gear. She's shooting for 400 miles, including miles walked, run on
treadmill, or done on elliptical machine. That's about 7.5 miles a week. She can do that.
As of May 18:
M.R. has signed up at the local rec center and is putting weight lifting back into her life. And since there is an elliptical machine there, she might as well use it. Maybe even go to some of the aerobics classes. Otherwise, there's still canoeing, walking, dancing. 2006 goal stays at 1000 miles.
As of 5/15/06 -- 397 miles.
After two years of not even coming close to her goal due to pregnancy and being post partum, Marlen is hoping to track at least 250 miles in '06. She shouldn't have any excuses this year!
Miles as of Jan. 1: zip.
Marn has learned the hard way that good habits are the toughest to keep. Here it is, Year Four of Going Nowhere, and she still has to rely on the lure of pixelated rubber duckie goodness to keep herself moving.
When does it get easier? Huh? HUH? This year's goal is to match last year's 1,250 miles, but to do fewer of those miles on the exercise bike and more on foot. Miles as of Oct. 28: 664.43.
Meg has signed up for another year of this madness! In 2004, she walked 400 miles. In 2005, she reached her goal of 500 miles. But in a brief moment of insanity, she has decided to really challenge herself, and the goal for 2006 is 1,000 miles! These miles include all miles walked at work, school, walks around the neighborhood, and on the elliptical machine at the gym. This is going to be great!
Miles as of April 5: 206.46!

Nicole had a tumultuous 2004 followed by an equally challenging 2005. After two years of missing the mark, she hopes that 2006 is her year to get her ducks in a row (they say the third times a charm, or some such nonsense, right?). Her goals for this year are 500 miles walking/running, and 20,000 crunches. Hey, that's less than 10 miles and 400 crunches a week. As of 11/15/06: 259 miles (51.8%) . Crunches as of 11/15/06: 12200 (61%) .
OnePotater is back for a second year of lard busting here at Going Nowhere. Last year, inspired by Marn and the posse, she made the decision to get up off the couch and start moving again. Between July and December 2005 she logged 850 miles on the recumbent exercise bike and treadmill and in the process lost 42 pounds! This year she is shooting for 1500 miles - 1200 on the bike and the remainder walking. She's also hoping to drop some more weight and edge closer to fitness.
Stats as of 31 December :
Treadmill miles: 519
Exercise Bike miles: 896
Total miles logged: 1415
Total hours spent going nowhere this year: 311 (kind of sad isn't it...)
Pounds lost this year: 8 (I lost 17 but seem to have put back 9...) Didn't quite make my goal, but I'll be back next year to take another crack at it ^_^
Pischina has accomplished a lot in her life in the past couple years, but the only thing she accomplished in regards to this website is the gaining of 20 pounds. This year she has cut down on the college units and created a life schedule that requires her to go to the gym on a regular basis again. Instead of a difficult challenge, she sees this as a good thing. Her goals are 500 miles between running, biking and swimming (she even signed up for Swimming for Spring Semester) and 1 million pounds lifted in the gym. ...And 40 pounds lost from her body. Miles logged as of June 18: Ground: 50.5 Water: 5.25 Weight lifted: 255,875 Pounds lost: +10 pounds (yuck)
Renee - is in her sophomore year with the 500 miles crew. In 2005 she did 500 miles by spring. This year she's going for 1,000 miles walk/ran by the end of the year.
Miles as of 4/30: 106.09
Zoethe is a sophomore here at Going Nowhere. For her inaugural year she logged over 2000 miles, proving that she's just crazy enough to be part of this crowd. Now 48, she has just passed the bar exam and was sworn in as a lawyer on November 6. It's been a wild year. Her goal for the year is two-fold again, adjusted for the craziness of the year: 750 biking miles and 750 non-biking miles.
Miles as of December 31:
892 non-biking miles (YAY! MADE IT!!!)
579 biking miles
